B. What are Stem Cells?

They are primitive cells present in almost every tissue in the body.  They are found in high numbers in fat in particular (43%, 4 in 10 cells!). The cells we use are called mesenchymal stem cells and are not to be confused with embryonic stem cells. Embryonic stem cells are taken from another animal in the embryonic form and used to treat someone else. They have ethical/ moral controversy with them.  Mesenchymal stem cells are derived from the fat tissue of the animal itself that requires therapy.
